The world’s largest brokers of fine and decorative art, jewellery, real estate, and collectables that is Sotheby’s not long ago opened their door to a number of wealthy collectors in order to sell off an array of work done by the likes of Mark Rothko, Francis Bacon and more.

As for what was for sale, a number of iconic paintings were up for grabs such as Rothko’s confusingly-titled painting, ‘Untitled’, which gathered over $50.1 million. Not surprisingly as the work was one of 19 expressionist paintings made by Rothko in 1960. As well as this, Francis Bacon’s ‘Study for a Head’ raked in $50.4 million as the iconic artwork was produced as a part of a 6-piece series, all of which take the form of small portraits that were made by the renowned artist in 1952. All in all the entire sale brought in approximately $342 million from a number of collectors.

Take a look at both of the previously-mentioned works below, if you like what you see then head over to Sotheby’s official website to find out more regarding the event.
