The American rapper, singer and producer, Malcolm James McCormick, known professionally as Mac Miller, was found unresponsive at his San Fernando Valley home and was pronounced dead at the scene when officials arrived. Specifically, the artist who had battled substance abuse problems for years was suspected to have died from an overdose at the age of just 26. Police found him at his home after they were alerted of his state following a call that came from a friend of Miller’s who dialled the number from the late creative’s own home.
This of course came as a shock to many and fans have been solemnly playing his latest project, Swimming, a 13-track LP that features the likes of Snoop Dogg, Thundercat and Syd in order to ease the loss. Consequently, during this time various listeners have pointed out a lyric in the song ‘Brand Name’ that won’t be easy to listen to following the news, the lyric is: “Shootin’ dice with Jesus Christ, put 20 on the midnight / To everyone to sell me drugs / Don’t mix it with that bullshit I hopin’ not to join the twenty seven club.”
