After halting his #Merky festival set to watch and celebrate England beating Columbia on penalties, the grime MC Stormzy has yet another piece of #Merky related news hitting headlines. That time it’s due to his work with the American book publisher and the largest general-interest paperback publisher in the world, Penguin Random House.
Specifically, has launched a partnership with Penguin Random House and in doing so has launched a #Merky Books project, the aim of this being to help young writers get their work out there and recognised. Stormzy had this to say about the venture: “I know too many talented writers that don’t always have an outlet or a means to get their work seen and hopefully #Merky Books can now be a reference point for them to say ‘I can be an author’ and for that to be a realistic and achievable goal.” Adding: “Reading and writing as a kid was integral to where I am today and I from the bottom of my heart cannot wait to hear your stories, your poems, your novels, your sci-fis and then getting them out into the big wide world. Proper proud of this!”
As well as this, #Merky Books will be offering a paid internship in 2019. However, this will likely be before the first book to be released under the imprint takes place, this book being Stormzy’s very own, titled Rise Up: The #Merky Story So Far.
