Following a French documentary unveiling the huge amount of waste that comes from Amazon binning their old stock, the retail conglomerate has now promised to donate their unsold items from now on.
Specifically, it was found that Amazon destroyed almost 3 million items last year, and that’s in France alone. This is a consequence of Amazon reaching the end of their contract with a supplier, as once they part ways Amazon gives the company a choice of having their items returned, or alternatively, destroyed – with most choosing the latter.
This makes it a little harder to shift all the blame on Amazon, as after all, you could argue that they were merely doing on the behalf of another company. However, that’s beside the point, the good news is that now we can expect these otherwise-worthless items to be put to good use by people who need them most.
