Last week tech-enthusiasts were shocked to find that the Apple’s longtime chief design officer, Jony Ive, would be leaving Apple in order to start his own design firm. The news could never have been predicted as the genius designer had stayed loyal to Apple for the best part of the decades and spearheaded the design-side of the company’s biggest creations all the while.
Well, as for caused the change in heart, a number of publications have laid out good reasons to believe that it was somewhat down to Tim Cook’s lack of interest in the design-side of the products. Specifically, the Apple team led by Jony Ive was said to have become more and more frustrated after their input was reduced, with the Apple Watch acting as one of the products they felt like they didn’t contribute enough to.
This worried Jony Ive in particular as a company once focused on product design was becoming increasingly led by operations. Clearly, from what we have heard and seen recently, the Apple creative must have felt like his work could be of more value elsewhere.
