After turning up in person to man the stall of his Venice-based art pop-up, the renowned English street artist, vandal, political activist, and film director that is Banksy just claimed a brand new piece, located right on the city’s famous canals.
As for what we see, a migrant child wearing a lifejacket and holding a neon pink flare can be seen upon the surface of the water. Interestingly, the piece has been there since early May, however, it was only until recently did the mysterious artist claim the creation. Interestingly, this carries on the creative’s long run of using children in his work to pack a meaningful punch, with previous pieces including “In Tesco We Trust”, “Girl and Baloon”, “No Ball Games”, “Nobody Likes Me”, “Napalm, Can’t Beat That Feeling”, and many more.
Banksy then offered a statement alongside the piece, expressing: “We’re often led to believe migration is a drain on the country’s resources but Steve Jobs was the son of a Syrian migrant. Apple is the world’s most profitable company, it pays over $7 billion USD a year in taxes – and it only exists because they allowed in a young man from Homs.” Take a look at his latest piece below.
