The American rapper, entrepreneur, songwriter, and record producer that is Jay Z notably announced the opening of his very own music streaming service titled ‘TIDAL‘ back in 2015.

However, now, just 4 years later the company is being criminally investigated in Norway for falsifying streaming numbers. As for why this took place, a Norwegian newspaper, Dagens Næringsliv, exposed TIDAL after they obtained a hard drive containing tampered data. In which the journalists found that approximately 1.3 million fake accounts were supposedly used to stream the albums on the platform, consequently the streaming service paid out increased royalty fees to the artists and their respective record labels.

As for why this could have taken place, it could be to increase the profits of the artists at the expense of the investors, or it could be to try and increase the reputation of the company and increase the company’s overall value. I guess we will have to wait to find out for sure.
