Whether you like it or not, porn is a booming business. In fact, in 2018 alone the most commonly used porn site, Pornhub, received 33.5 billion visits, not only does that average about 92 million visitors per day, but the data transmitted from the platform’s servers this year totaled over 4.6 billion gigabytes which, as Pornhub has stated, is more than the entire quantity of data that the internet used in 2002.
Furthermore, thanks to Pornhub themselves we can see some breakdowns of these numbers and some of the statistics are pretty incredible, in a weird way of course. For example, on the 11th of April Fortnite servers were taken down for about 24 hours, consequently, we saw a 60% increase in Pornhub visits. Not only that but the game’s sixth season introduced gamers to Calamity, and just three months later, the character had 2.5 million users search her on Pornhub – more than any other Fortnite character.
However, this fictional searching, of course, wasn’t exclusive to Fortnite, in fact, Harley Quin from ‘‘Suicide Squad‘ kept the number one spot for fictional character searches but was rivalled by the Avengers themselves as searches for the various Marvel characters increased 356% on the 27th of April, the release date for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ in America.
