Although it may sound like something out of your worst nightmare, scientists have recently made great breakthroughs in microbot technology, hoping that eventually we will see a swarm of tiny robots swim through your eye and dispense treatment directly into any affected areas.

Specifically, a team of researchers have designed minuscule controllable delivery vehicles that could just become the future of eye medicine. As for how it works, scientists created the nanoscale spiral-shaped robots via 3D printing, from here they coated the tech in a layer of a slippery magnetic substance that when paired with a magnetic field can actually pass through the jelly of the eye.

As for why this would be useful, eye diseases such as glaucoma or diabetic macular edema have treatments that are generally delivered through direct injection or eyedrops and, of course, these are invasive or inaccurate treatments. If you like the sound of this kind of sci-fi tech then take a look at the video below to find out more.
