John Awen was addicted to heroin and crack-cocaine for 12 years. He has had some run-ins with the law as well as with experiences that you really wouldn’t wish upon your worst enemy. Having said that, he has made a complete recovery, he’s been sober now for many years and has published multiple books, the latest of which is ‘Living Hell to Living Well.’
Although he has kicked his addiction, years of drug abuse took its toll on his heart. Consequently, John suffered severe heart attacks, with an echocardiogram revealing that his heart had been so damaged that his survival wasn’t all too likely. He was due for open-heart surgery and was prescribed a number of different medications in the meantime.
However, John – who is a qualified nutritionist – put himself on a vegan diet, although it would relieve some of his health conditions he was mainly motivated by animal welfare and protecting the environment. A new scan several months later showed that 7 out of his 10 complaints were showing signs of reversal. Additionally, John was able to safely take himself off of his medication and no longer needed the open-heart surgery that was first advised.
John has first-hand experiences with some of the most challenging and dark aspects of life. That’s why he wants to pass on his advice, stories and knowledge to anyone willing to listen or read. If you are one of those people then you’re in luck as his new book was released yesterday and can be purchased via Waterstones. Alternatively, you can get yourself a signed copy through John’s own website.
