Hyundai teamed up with British start-up, Urban Air Port, in order to implement the “world’s first hub for future electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing eVTOL aircraft.”
The airport designed for both drones, and eventually people, is based in Coventry and hopes to decrease traffic in the years to come. Urban Air Port CEO, Ricky Sandhu said: “Cars need roads. Trains need rails. Planes need airports. eVTOLs will need Urban Air Ports.”
The South Korean car company decided to team with Urban Air Port as they want at least 200 of these hubs across the world in the next five years. Thanks to Urban Air Port’s growing infrastructure, this goal might just be achievable. Now, although it seems like a futuristic dream, the first commercial airport only opened approximately a century ago. Furthermore, Ricky Sandhu noted that the hub will be 60% smaller than traditional airports due to it not requiring long landing strips.
For now, all we can do is wait and see how these projects develop. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we are seeing our cities from the sky more often.
