According to the latest figures from Global Finance Magazine, Tokyo is the best city in the world to live in. The capital of Japan has placed above Singapore, New York and London in a series of factors used to calculate its positioning.
This year, COVID-19 death figures have been used to help determine the ranks and were then weighted by a factor of 3; to show its importance. This statistic, used alongside economic strength, research and development, cultural interaction, liveability, environment, accessibility ad GDP per capita was used to calculate each cities place on the list.
Tokyo’s high score has been, in part, to Japans reaction to the Coronavirus outbreak – completely closing their borders and postponing the Olympic Games. Other cities drastically fell down the list, because of the way the pandemic was handled. Milan, Barcelona and Madrid all dropped places – as well as London, who missed out on the top spot due to the level of U.K. deaths and infections.
