Today, pharmaceutical developers Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech announced that they have found a vaccine for Covid-19. The vaccine was tested on 43,500 people in six countries and was found to be 90% successful – with no safety concerns.

Shortly after this news broke the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, held a conference to discuss the vaccine and the current Lockdown regulations. During this meeting, the PM said the vaccine has “cleared a significant hurdle” but to remain grounded, as it is still “very, very early days”. There are still challenges ahead for us all and if we continue on our current path, experts have suggested that we could be back to normal by next spring!

The announcement of the vaccine is, for many, a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel and for the most part, it is. However, it is important to remember that it could be some weeks before the first batch of injections is rolled out and has an effect on the current statistics. Although, a limited number of people may get the vaccine this year. The UK has ordered 40 million doses of the vaccine, enough for 20 million people, as two doses are required.
