A guitar once owned and played by the legendary guitarist, Jimi Hendrix, has recently sold at a GWS auction; for $216,000 USD. The instrument in question is a 1960’s Japanese made sunburst electric guitar.

The guitar is said to have been bought by Jimi when he left the army in 1962. The notes of the auction say that the guitar was played by Hendrix after he moved to Clarksville, Tennessee from Fort Campbell, playing at venues like Cafe Wha and the Cheetah Club. He played alongside some very big names, such as Tina Turner and Slim Harpo before he moved to NYC in 1966. The winner of the Guitar will receive a letter of provenance from the previous owner and a statement from the collector who spoke with the previous owner before he passed; alongside the instrument itself.
