After seeing the struggles that Jamaican locals had to live with day to day – especially in regards to the crime rate, the ex-police officer and activist that is William Willson embarked on a journey with the aim to build the island’s first skatepark.

Specifically, he was touched when he saw a mini-documentary in which a young Jamaican skate-enthusiast named Andre “Wildfiyah” Thompson spoke passionately about his wish to have a skatepark local to him, something which he will tragically never experience as he was murdered just days after the documentary’s filming.

Well, fast forward years of planning, networking and communicating, Willsons Brixton-based charity has been given the green-light to build what will be titled the “Freedom Skate Park”. In fact, the government has already agreed with the idea, stating that it would be great for the community, while a 50-year lease has already been secured.

All that is needed right now is an investment of $43,442, something which the charity is sourcing publically. Therefore, if you want to do your bit in supporting the cause, head over to Flipping Youth’s Kickstarter page in order to donate.
