After the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog live-action film was teased in trailers and posters everywhere, there was one response that was seen across the globe, and that was that the iconic character wasn’t quite captured right. In fact, the franchise’s enthusiasts and artists alike consequently took on the challenge to revamp the studio’s official design only to have their Sonic, more often than not, be received better than the movie’s.
This, of course, isn’t a good sign, however, it seems like the director, Jeff Fowler, took the criticism in a constructive manner, stating that Sega and Paramount Pictures are both “fully committed” to making the big screen adaptation of the character “the BEST he can be.” This has interestingly lead the creative’s involved to postpone the release of the movie from November this year until February 2020.
Specifically, via an official announcement on Jeff’s Twitter the news was broken, maybe kicking off a first in entertainment history, as a movie of this size carries out a complete design re-haul despite being so close to their original release date.
This news has been taken one of two ways, with either frustration or relief. Some were happy with the original style and think that this delay is pointless, however, the majority of have shown their gratitude to those involved for listening to the criticism that was thrown their way.
Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast 🔧✌️
