Britain’s Royal Collection is gearing up for what will be the largest presentation of Leonardo da Vinci’s work in over 60 years, and while doing so the iconic art collectors came across a huge discovery.

Specifically, when sifting through over 200 pages of the late Italian polymath’s work, the trust found a recognisable face within, interestingly, the face belonged to da Vinci himself, making this drawing the second known portrait of the genius. The first being a portrait done by his assistant, Francesco Melzi.

As for what makes this new drawing so amazing, Leonardo da Vinci lived back between 1452 and 1519 and this image was created before the latter, consequently meaning that it has been preserved for over 500 years, now allowing us a better look at the Leonardo, something that many thought we lost the opportunity to do.

Take a look at the image below, if you like what you see then you are in luck as the drawing as well as countless other pieces regarding the intellectual and creative icon, will be displayed at Britain’s Royal Collection’s upcoming presentation. The exhibition will take place at the end of May until the 13th of October, head over to Britain’s Royal Collection’s website to find out more and purchase tickets.
