The month of Feburary in 2019 saw more murders and investigations take place in London than New York, a scary statistic that just begins to show the true epidemic of crime, primarily knife crime, that is on the rise mainly in England’s capital.

Well, to try and counter such antics, eight police commissioners and London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, have written to Theresa May stating that pupils that have been either formally and informally excluded, are being “sucked into criminality”. This is before the letter goes into a little more detailing, outlining that cuts to school funds and youth services have consequently meant that the “interventions” that are needed for those who are falling into criminal activities aren’t able to happen. Furthermore, the letter also goes on to call for unofficial exclusions, known as off-rolling, to be outlawed.

Interestingly, on Wednesday, Mrs May said that the government will be tackling knife crime with the utmost of urgency as the deaths of young people were “appalling”. However, May’s current ways of viewing and fighting the epidemic seem to be ineffective. In fact, Theresa May has received much of the blame for the inital rise in the crime statistics as the numbers have shot up since police numbers have been cut by 21,000, all of which was done by Theresa May, first as home secretary and secondly as prime minister.
