China’s most recent spacecraft has pushed the boundaries of space exploration as they became the first country to successfully land a spacecraft on the “dark” side of the moon.
Specifically, after the country launched their Chang’e 4 spacecraft and solar-powered rover, Yutu-2, on the 7th of December 2017, scientists were waiting with bated breath until yesterday when their tech successfully touched down on the far side of the space-rock at South Pole-Aitken Basin at 10:26 a.m. Beijing Time.
Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time the feat was attempted, however, NASA’s mission to do the very same unfortunately crashed in 1964 due to a computer failure, making America only hold the record for getting an object to touch the mysterious territory.
