The New Zealand film director, screenwriter and film producer best known for his work on ‘The Lord of The Rings,’ Peter Jackson,  gave us a glimpse last month at just how incredibly well he and film developers have been able to restore original World War 1 footage.

Well, after the full film titled ‘They Shall Not Grow Old’ was aired on BBC 2 yesterday to pay homage to those who fought in the great war 100 years after it came to an end, many have been keen to rewatch the film due to just how astonishing the production of it has been. Specifically, Jackson used voice recordings from the Imperial War Museum as well as other sources in an inventive way in order to capture the emotion and feelings present during the time while also allowing viewers to not require extensive historical knowledge.

As for the restored footage, the process was painstakingly long as experts had to not only slow down the archived video, but also add extra frames, and reduce the shake of the overall output while also adding artificial depth of field and colour to every separate frame.

Take just a glimpse at the final product below, if you like what you see and are interested to find out more then head to your local cinema as the film is available for viewing now.
