It seems like an age ago that we saw Manny Pacquiao step into the ring with Floyd Mayweather for what was called the “Fight of the Century” where the iconic Filipino athlete was defeated via unanimous decision. However since 2015 a fair amount has changed and following Pacquiao claiming the WBA welterweight title after his fight against Lucas Mathysse he had this to say to the reporters: “Mayweather? If he decides to go back to boxing then that is the time we are going to call the shots,” adding “I have the belt, so it’s up to him. If he wants to come back in boxing, let’s do a second one.”
However, it doesn’t look like it will be happening anytime soon since Floyd not only retired from the sport but has also taken a fair interest in UFC and stated this regarding the rematch suggestion: “I had a chance to see Manny Pacquiao (beat Matthysse). Congrats to Manny Pacquiao, everybody is constantly asking me are you going to come back and fight Manny Pacquiao? Like I said before we did what we had to do. I warned he had excuses but congrats on the victory Mannny Pacquiao, keep up the good work. You gotta realise this. I made smart investments. I speak real things when I post on social media. Like I said, short-term sacrifices, long time rewards.”
