The British human propulsion technology start-up, Gravity Industries, were one of the first groups to successfully create a personal jet-propelled exoskeleton. The suit that has been given the title Daedalus, named after the Greek figure who made himself a pair of wings, works via several body-mounted mini jet engines working in unison with the wearer in order to provide flight.
The developers say that by putting a lot of the flight controls in the hands of the wearer’s ability to naturally balance and workout allows the suit to become as minimalist as possible. However, this also means that you cant just strap yourself in and take off, instead it takes around 15 to 20 minutes to just about get comfortable taking your feet off the floor. Although, if you get the hang of it you are in for a fun time as it recently set the world record for fastest speed in a body controlled jet engine powered suit, reaching a record-breaking speed of 32 MPH. Take a look at the suit’s agility and speed tests below.
