Japan is fairly renowned for staying ahead of the technology game, however, the plans of one Japanese company named Sumitomo Forestry Co. might be pushing this to its limits.

The company that often focuses on providing housing and wood products through the power of forests has submitted plans for a 350-meter high skyscraper – called the W350 Project – in Tokyo in order to mark the firm’s 350th anniversary which would take place in 2041. To put the height of this building into perspective it would stand almost 50m higher than the Shard and Eiffel Tower.

Although what is particularly impressive about this piece of architecture is that it’s crafted from 90% wood and the rest premium materials and small amounts of steel. Furthermore, to add to the natural aesthetic the skyscraper will also feature balconies on all four sides, allowing greenery to grow from the very bottom to the very top. As for what it would be used for, the 455,000 square metres of floor space will be divided into wooden offices, apartments and even shops with the whole project looking to set the company back an eye-watering $5.6 billion.
