Body positivity can be a controversial subject as on one side people say you should be happy with your body unconditionally and others say you should be happy with your body if it is healthy. Although no matter what your stance on the topic is we can all agree that it’s wrong that the American professional tennis player, Serena Williams, receives a large amount of hate surrounding her physique while still remaining healthy. This is why the athlete appeared in Vogue’s newest edition alongside her newborn baby Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. opening up about the 5 body positive lessons she will pass on to her child. In summary, the advice is:
Live by your own standards, tune out the negativity
Beauty isn’t one size fits all
Keep your eye on the prize (Focus on more important stuff)
Get comfortable with yourself
However, this isn’t the only time she has given us an insight into her mindset on the topic. In the past Serena stated:
“My arms, legs, butt, body or anything might not look like the girl over there’s but if they have a problem with it then I look them in the eye and say, ‘If you don’t like it, I don’t want you to like it. I’m not asking you to like it.” *This quote has been edited for readability*
