Ithell Colquhoun, a provocative artist known for her refusal to conform or compromise, delved deeply into the realms of the occult, nature, and themes related to sex and gender in her work. Often overshadowed by the towering male figures of surrealism, her artistic contributions are now receiving recognition through a collaboration between Dr. Martens and Tate, where Dr. Martens’ boots serve as a canvas to celebrate her unique vision.
Dr. Martens has a history of attracting artists and individuals who champion underrepresented voices and progress. This latest collaboration with Tate pays homage to Ithell Colquhoun, infusing the classic 1460 boot with her unconventional spirit. The collection showcases two of her expressive works: ‘Volcanic Flare’ and ‘Example of Decalcomania Technique’ © Tate.
Both boots feature the durable Dr. Martens construction, including a grooved sole and signature yellow welt stitching, along with the distinctive black and yellow heel loop. The collection extends to include a Backpack adorned with Colquhoun’s captivating artworks.
The collaboration is set to launch on September 28th, available at drmartens.com and select partners.
