Vans have teamed up with Nickelodeon to bring us a new SpongeBob SquarePants collection. The collection is compiled of classic footwear, apparel and accessories fit for fans of all ages.
As well as the Vans capsule, there will also be a second series of garments designed by New York based fashion designer, Sandy Liang. Liang’s compilation features her own fashion interpretation of the animated series elements and characters.
Some standout pieces from the Vans collaborative collection includes the Old Skool checkerboard emblazoned quarter panel featuring SpongeBob and his pet snail, Gary; who can be seen hidden amongst the checkerboard on the shoe. We also get the ‘Imaginaaation’ graphic, which can be found on short-sleeve tees and a coaches jacket. The graphic pays homage to the episode of SpongeBob where he and Patrick use their imagination to play in a cardboard box.
From Sandy Lang’s interpretation, we see two iterations of the Vans Sk8-Hi 38 DX and an apparel and accessories assortment. The first of the SK8-Hi 38 DX shoes feature a patchwork pattern on the quarter panel. Sandy brings together her Chinese heritage and juxtaposes a classic plaid print with flower cloud and groovy patterns taken directly from the animated series. The second Sk8-Hi is finished with delicate floral appliques that are reminiscent of the flower found atop Sandy Cheek’s diving suit.
