With accessories becoming more and more sought after as we move into the Autumn/Winter seasons, necklaces and rings are often the most popular choices. Having said that, these jewellery options are often the most varied, with some pieces setting you back the price of a meal, and others setting you back the price of a car.

Well, given that this difference in price doesn’t reflect the kind of performance gap you would see with a laptop, phone or speaker, why exactly does it differ so much? and what exactly does it mean for you?

Firstly, it depends on your motives. It’s all very well getting a necklace that will set you back a month’s wage if it’s an investment. However, if you’re planning on taking it to a rave, it’s more likely a gurning dancer will get their hands on it, not your grandkids. Similarly, if you’re a skater or even just a forgetful person, it might not be worth risking it unless you piss money.

A direct comparison

So, let’s just assume you want a necklace or ring for both occasions, what differences can you expect then? If you want something on the cheaper side then a site like TRENDHIM is pretty ideal. The majority of their pieces will be setting you back £19, and for that, they are offering what you need to simply achieve the style.

Now, it goes without saying that you can’t expect silver or gold constructions with jewellery that costs £19. However, thanks to nickel-free manufacturing, you don’t have to worry about any adverse reactions that commonly arise with some cheaper jewellery. Furthermore, with high-quality packaging and a branded pouch, it doesn’t feel like you’re getting nothing for the little money you are handing over.

On the other hand, if you were to look at pieces from the likes of Gucci, Versace and more, you can be handing over upwards of 20x more. Having said that, in these cases, the material alone already begins to justify the higher price point, with real gold and silver being used wherever possible.

Not only this, but as a general rule of thumb you can expect a more detailed design to be achieved. Below you can see a direct comparison, on the left is TRENDHIM’s Elizabeth II necklace, on the right is Versace’s Medusa Head necklace courtesy of END. Clothing. Now although the difference isn’t huge, we would have to wait and see how these details hold up to the test of time.

Like previously stated, if you are looking to wear these at a party, uni or skating, it’s unlikely these small details are going to be noticed. While alternatively, if you are planning wearing it for a wedding, funeral or business meeting, these small differences may be worth investing in. Another slight difference can be seen a little clearer below. On the left is TRENDHIM’s Heart of Mary necklace, on the right is Miansai’s Dove Pendant, as you can see the gold hue is very slightly duller on the left.

Before you get ahead of yourself and start buying jewellery as if you’re Slick Rick, it might be worth considering the price point yet again. You could either have the Versace necklace, or five Air Force 1s, two Coffees from Costa and the Elizabeth II necklace from TRENDHIM. To us, it seems like the only justification to copping the Versace necklace is that you are planning on having it for a long time before passing it on to a loved one.

If you are passing on five Air Force 1s, two Coffees from Costa and the Elizabeth II necklace from TRENDHIM to your kids, then you might have a problem.
