The upcoming film from Universal Pictures, 1917, is an upcoming 2019 British-American war film directed by Sam Mendes and co-written by Mendes and Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
The flick looks to a strong-performing cast consisting of George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, with Colin Firth, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Interestingly, the film is based in part on an account told to Mendes by his paternal grandfather, Alfred Mendes, and focuses on the orders of one particular soldier who had one critical mission that, if completed, would save his brother’s life.
