Thanks to the tech commentator that is George L. Koroneos, we finally have a glimpse at what to expect from 5G networks. Specifically, George uploaded a video to Twitter in which he puts the upcoming tech to the test.
As for what we see, the clip shows a 5G-enabled Samsung Galaxy S10 running an internet speed test with the phone whilst connected via 5G. Unfortunately, we don’t see the upload speeds tested, however, we think that the download speed speaks volumes in itself. In fact, when running the test the download speed peaked at a whopping 1098 Mbps – the equivalent to 137 Mb per second.
To put this into perspective, regular 4G connections achieve a top speed of around 40 Mbps, consequently making the 5G speeds we saw on this device around 28x faster. Another way of looking at this is that you could download all the Netflix data for the entire Harry Potter franchise in less than 2 and a half minutes.
However, before you get excited, remember that you will need to have a 5G-enabled device to take advantage of these speeds. At the moment Samsung’s S10 is set to receive it sometime this year, while Apple has stated that they won’t be releasing one until at least 2020.
