By now you have likely heard that the UK Government is planning on implementing a full, country-wide, porn-block that will require visitors to show ID before they can access any content. Well, if you hadn’t then you may be as confused as we were when we first heard the news, and for good reason.
In fact, the change comes with many tech heads criticizing the approach, believing that the change will cause more harm than good. As for how, they are sure that the task is just too enormous to carry out effectively, for example, with millions of adult websites out there, from one man operations to companies raking in multiple millions a year, no one is confident that the government will be able to catch and censor every single one. Consequently, the ban will certainly reach all of the mainstream sites, meaning that those looking for uncensored content will instead flock to smaller and less secure sites in an effort to avoid inputting any credit card or driving licence info.
But the problems don’t stop there, interestingly, this ban will not be able to take place upon platforms such as Reddit or Twitter that currently hosts 18+ content. Meaning that huge markets for adult content will open up on social media sites that currently have no real demand for it.

However, let’s just say for argument’s sake that the government are able to reach every site, people will now have to face the fact that their name and official identification could be tied to all of their less-than-delightful online. Is that really something that anybody would trust a company with? Well, when you instead have the option to use a VPN service to quickly change the location of your internet address, it won’t be a very hard choice. Specifically, VPN services such as ExpressVPN will be able to mask your actual location making websites thinking you are from any country you desire, consequently meaning that the website will automatically bypass the UK’s block.

Amazingly, these are just a few of the holes that experts have found in the plan. However, the only way we are going to be able find out how succesful the change of approach will be is to wait for its implementation on the 15th of July.
