Police Brake into Art Gallery After Mistaking a Mannequin for a Corpse
The London-based artist originally from Sierra Leone, Kollier Din Bangura, recently had one of his exhibitions draw more attention than usual, now although this is usually a good thing for a creative, the attention in question lead to police kicking in the doors of a gallery after mistaking a mannequin for a corpse.
As for what exactly took place, Kollier was displaying his work in the Factory art Gallery in east London when a passerby reported a body and noose in the building to the local police. However, this ‘body’ and noose was, in fact, a part of the artist’s exhibition and was actually a sculpture created from wire and paper.
As for Kollier’s reaction, he said“fair play to the police, they broke in and if it was really someone wanting to hang themselves they gave themselves a chance at saving them.” Although this was before he pointed out that there were “posters on each door showing it was an art exhibition. I just wish they had looked at them and contacted the building’s owner before smashing through the door.”
