The Canadian mining firm that is Dominion Diamond Mines must have been thanking their lucky stars after they unearthed what has turned out to be the largest natural diamond ever found in North America.
Specifically, the diamond was dug up from Dominion’s Diavik mine and weighed in at 552 carats, almost three times the size of the second largest natural diamond ever discovered in North America which was interestingly excavated at the same exact site. As for the 33.74mm x 54.56mm stone’s journey from here, what will probably happen is that Dominion Diamond Mines will source a company to cut and finish the diamond into a number of smaller usable rocks which will then be sold at a premium price due to their amazing origins.
