“We are going to space Richard” were the words that the English business magnate, investor, author and philanthropist, Richard Branson, had been waiting to hear for years as his company, Virgin, successfully launched their VSS Unity spacecraft into space.
Specifically, the vehicle’s two test pilots from the Mojave Air and Space Port in California were transported into space at over 3x the speed of sound after the carbon fibre launch vehicle called “VMS Eve,” detached from the rest of the spacecraft titled, “Unity,” after reaching 43,000 feet. Consequently, Mark “Forger” Stucky and Frederick “CJ” Sturckow are now astronauts. If you are jealous then don’t worry as the reason this flight took place was to start testing Virgin Galactic’s ability to be able to take individuals to space and back as they plan to become the first commercial space-travelling company.
Take a look at a few clips of the launch below, if you like what you see then stay tuned as we will keep you up to date with all of Virgin Galactic’s developments as they take place.
