After news that Gucci was being investigated for a €1 Billion tax evasion case, many had lost faith in brands and labels, however, thanks to the American clothing company that is Patagonia, that faith might be restored. As for why, the sustainable brand has confirmed that they are planning to donate a whopping $10 million dollars to various environmentally-friendly causes as the brand has some ‘spare money’ due to laws being passed last year that produced large tax breaks for corporations.

Specifically, In a statement Rose Marcario, the Patagonia CEO, announced the news by first criticizing the tax cuts, calling them “irresponsible.” This was before she promised to continue to support the causes Patagonia holds close to them, saying: “We recognize that our planet is in peril. We are committing all $10 million to groups committed to protecting air, land and water and finding solutions to the climate crises,” adding, “we have always funded grassroots activism, and this $10 million will be on top of our ongoing 1% for the Planet giving. Being a responsible company means paying your taxes in proportion to your success and supporting your state and federal governments, which in turn contribute to the health and well-being of civil society.”

Maybe everyone should try to be a little more Patagonia.
