The British technology company that is Dyson are renowned for their vacuum cleaners, yet the tech conglomerate is looking to widen their horizons and take on Elon Musk’s Tesla after they announced plans to build its own electric car. Specifically, the company’s board members recently approved the construction of its first car manufacturing plant that is set to be based in Singapore.
As for what to expect in terms of the vehicles produced, the company’s founder, James Dyson, promised back in 2017 that they will have a unique take on the idea, stating: “There’s no point in doing [an electric car] that’s like everybody else’s,” adding, “You’ll have to wait and see, we’re trying to be radical.”
However, don’t think this is Dyson being radical as the company did, in fact, receive £174m of investment from the UK government to aid its EV engineering, with this money and the other couple of billions of dollars pledged to the project they are expected to not only have Dyson’s car factory up and running by 2020 and their first car produced by 2021, but will also create hundreds of jobs in the UK and abroad. I guess we will have to wait and see how they get on.
