Unfortunately, a report that was recently published in the medical journal, The Lancet, showed that after analysing alcohol consumption and disease risk across 195 international locations from 1990 to 2016, it was found that no amount of alcohol is healthy. Specifically, the research shows that there is no backing to the common myths that certain amounts of wine, cider, beer etc… is actually good for you.
In fact, none of the positive effects that can be found in specific groups of people or situations was significant enough to counteract the overall health risk of alcohol, even small amounts.
Max Griswold of the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics was actually the study leader, this is what he had to say: “Although the health risks associated with alcohol start off being small with one drink a day, they then rise rapidly as people drink more,” adding: “Previous studies have found a protective effect of alcohol on some conditions, but we found that the combined health risks associated with alcohol increase with any amount of alcohol.”
