The fashion mogul that is Dapper Dan made a name for himself back in the ’80s as the Hip Hop tailor of Harlem started introducing his personal eye for fashion into the world of contemporary hip-hop and sports which at the time had seen nothing like Dan’s creative vision.
In his designs, he bootlegged high fashion brands, including Fendi, Louis Vuitton, and yes you guessed it, Gucci, but of course, these brands weren’t happy about it at the time. However, as the years went on and his legacy became iconic, Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele thought it was time to make his creations more official and cement his place into the brand’s history. This is when the idea for the Dapper Dan collection was born.
So yes his collection is a big deal, hence why so many were curious to find out that the pieces were on sale exclusively at Gucci’s new Wooster Street retail location. However, these same people can breathe a sigh of relief as the collection has just become available online.
