The German sportswear giants, adidas, have recently informed the public that they have experienced a potential data security breach which could have possibly affected portions of its extensive customer base. Specifically, a report provided by Business Insider addresses the fact that an “unauthorized party” had successfully hacked into the company’s U.S.-based website, meaning those who have saved information or created an account with the US online retailer before may be at risk.

However, this is all that is known as of now, with the number of affected accounts unknown as well as to what extent the hackers have been able to access information. Although, adidas have said that its very possible that the third party could have cracked emails, addresses and passwords, however, they are confident that credit card information and fitness metrics are all safe. As for what’s going to be done, adidas have already started making progress in contacting those who may have been affected while they continue to work with security firms on a forensic investigation.

adidas had this to say to the Business Insider: “adidas is committed to the privacy and security of its consumers’ personal data. adidas immediately began taking steps to determine the scope of the issue and to alert relevant consumers. adidas is working with leading data security firms and law enforcement authorities to investigate the issue.”
