Not long ago the American actor, comedian, writer, director, record producer, singer, songwriter, rapper and DJ, Donald Glover, dropped a politically-charged track titled ‘This is America’ which blew up meteorically worldwide, and for good reason. However, in the last couple of days a Reddit community have found another song that many think may have ‘inspired’ Childish Gambino and his fellow creative’s sound, while others go further saying that they straight up plagiarised it.

The song in question is Jase Harley’s “American Pharaoh,” which appeared on Harley’s 2016 Free Pxrn: The Memoir of an American Heathen album. As for the similarities, the song does feature a heavy baseline, a similar flow, tone of voice, subject as well as a choir-esque section. However, one person who disagrees strongly is Childish Gambino’s manager, Fam Rothstein, who took to Twitter to respond to the user named ‘Akademiks/every white blogger’ who publicly accused Donald Glover of copying the song, by stating this: “the Internet is a place of no consequences. I hate that Toronto Akademiks/every white blogger can say something as gospel and y’all take it. this song is 3 yrs old, and we have pro tools files to prove it. but fuck you and your moms, and your future fetuses. stay blessed.” Although, since this statement the tweet has been deleted.
