American celebrity chef, author, travel documentarian, and television personality, Anthony Bourdain, has died at the age of 61. Bourdain was working on an episode of his series ‘Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown’ before the French chef Eric Ripert found Bourdain in his hotel room on Friday morning in an unresponsive state. Since then his death has been confirmed by multiple sources with the cause of death said to be suicide. Consequently, CNN had this to say:
“It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”
The renowned chef worked his way up from a dish washer and kept a moral compass at the forefront of his career choices, often bringing focus to serious world issues through his work as well as opening people’s eyes to new cultures, communities and ideas, it is an understatement to say he will be deeply missed.
