It wasn’t long ago we saw Tyler Blevins, know more commonly online as ‘Ninja’, smash Twitch records as he streamed the popular game, Fortnite, while playing with a squad that consisted of Drake, Travis Scott and JuJu Smith-Schuster. Well recently the gamer confirmed to a Forbes contributor that he is in fact making over $500,000 a month in his line of work and has outlined approximately where this money comes from.
Not only does Ninja run a YouTube channel that has over 5 million subscribers, but he is the most watched Twitch streamer in the world, and although most people are aware of how content creators produce an income on YouTube via the adverts placed on their videos, he confirms that the majority of his wealth comes from Twitch. Specifically, many of Blevins’ viewers on the streaming platform are Amazon Prime subscribers, and since Amazon bought Twitch for $960 million dollars in 2014, those who own prime accounts are granted the ability to donate to their favourite Twitch channels, and of course Ninja’s is one of, if not the most popular channels out there.
However, before you get your hopes up Ninja stated its not as easy as just playing games and getting paid for it, in fact the streamer stated that its no easy feat to become so good at a game people will pay to see you play, and often it takes some other forms of entertainment such as personality or even special guests to become the most viewed. More specifically Ninja had this to say:
“I think that I offer a combination of high-tier game play that they really can’t get with a lot of other content creators. It’s very difficult to be one of the very best at a video game,” further adding: “I’m very goofy; if you ever watched any of my streams or YouTube videos, I do impressions and stuff like that all the time and just crazy shenanigans. I think the combination of that [skill and entertainment] is really fun to watch.”
