After Christopher Bailey’s 17-year long service to Burberry ended with his February collection, all eyes were on the British luxury fashion house to announce who was going to be stepping in and filling the large shoes he left behind. However, the highly-anticipated news has come and it appears the ex-Givenchy creative director of 12 years, Riccardo Tisci is the man for the job. Tisci who will be taking on the role from the 12th of March is set to be the chief creative officer and will now be based in Burberry’s London headquarters.
The CEO of Burberry who has worked alongside Tisci in the past, Marco Gobbetti, had this to say:
“I am delighted that Riccardo is joining Burberry as Chief Creative Officer. Riccardo is one of the most talented designers of our time. His designs have an elegance that is contemporary and his skill in blending streetwear with high fashion is highly relevant to today’s luxury consumer. Riccardo’s creative vision will reinforce the ambitions we have for Burberry and position the brand firmly in luxury.”
As for Tisci, he gave this statement about the announcement:
“I am honoured and delighted to be joining Burberry as its new Chief Creative Officer and reuniting with Marco Gobbetti. I have an enormous respect for Burberry’s British heritage and global appeal and I am excited about the potential of this exceptional brand.”
